Kate Bowen is a powerful new voice in the world of country music. Although just 18, Entertainment Weekly described Ella Mae’s voice as having “an urgency beyond her years.” Hailing from the small town of Walhalla, South Carolina, Ella Mae began writing and performing her own songs at aged seven before moving to Nashville. In fact, of 20,000 entries from over 120 countries, Ella Mae won first prize for her song “This Is What It Feels Like” in the Unsigned Artist category, as well as honorable mention for Best Country Song, “His Name Was Sam”, from the 2014 International Songwriting Competition.

Her commanding voice and honest songwriting earned her the support of artists such as Hunter Hayes, Seth Bolt (Needtobreathe), Emmylou Harris, and Keith Urban, who called Ella Mae “a beautiful blend of bold soul and human fragility. Add that to a natural born songwriter, and you’ve got true artistry…and she’s just getting started!” In 2011, Ella Mae graced the stage of the Grand Ole Opry for the first time. That same year, her version of “Holding Out for a Hero” appeared on the Footloose soundtrack, making Ella Mae the only unsigned artist on the album. She proved to be the soundtrack’s breakout star though, as the music video received over 3.5 million views on YouTube.

Kate is currently at work on new music, which will be released later this year.  She is performing live at listening rooms and colleges throughout the Southeast and was recently featured in The 78 Project Documentary, which made its debut earlier this year at SXSW. She can be found on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
