Abbie Cardwell

Internationally-touring, ex-Adelaide songbird Abbie Cardwell's one helluva self-taught banjo pickin’, guitar slingin’, harmonica totin’ chick with "the voice of a homesick angel."

Having grown up on a healthy diet of her Country Hall Of Fame inductee father’s JJ Cale, Rickie Lee Jones, Tom Waits and Tony Joe White Records Abbie manages to condense those influences into her own style with an emphasis on the up-close-and-intimate side of ‘laid-back’.

Unsurprisingly, for someone who grew up across Australia/Singapore/England, travelling was always going to be a part of Abbie’s musical career. To date, she’s toured Germany in support of Dire Strait’s David Knopfler and opened the stage for many greats like Steve Earle and hero Tony Joe White.

Abbie has taken her music around the United States and was the winner in the BMI, USA Song Competition 2004 held on Kauai, Hawaii amongst other things. She set up shop in Atlanta, Georgia for about five months after winning the BMI Song Comp where she worked with producer Butch Walker (of Avril Lavigne and The Donnas fame) and, in a beautiful twist of fate (long story… ask her about it), managed to land the mixing services of Nick Didia (Bruce Springsteen, Powderfinger, Rage Against The Machine etc) - also known as Brendan O’Brien’s number one engineer.

On a home-base level, Abbie has been a Triple J Unearthed winner and recipient of the ABC Dig Radio award. For her latest album, Abbie secured the services of her golden fingered, six-stringing older brother Jeb, double bass work of Andy Albanis, tub thumping of acclaimed drummer Ashley Davies (of Matt Walker fame) and special guest Bedge (Bernard Fanning band).
Her inimitable style has been lapped up at festivals such as Womadelaide, The East Coast Blues & Roots Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival and many more.
